I have a friend who wants to be god. [normal friend to have.] He says gods are beings so powerful people follow them without question. I always thought that was kind of vague.
And everyone questions the pthumerians, so I guess they aren't gods in his eyes.
[birthdays are much more interesting.] I think so. [time to leave him a bag of rice at his door one of these days, mission accepted.] Oh, you can tell if she leaves you a gift. They do that, I think, if it's their month and it's your patron.
[Yoichi pauses in his quest for some of his own soup, ladle in hand.]
Your friend just wants to be super popular. Being a real god would be a lot of responsibility, and a lot of work. I haven't heard of a god that isn't questioned, from Christianity to Hinduism and everything in between. You get one disaster and countless hands are upraised demanding answers as to why this or that God let it happen.
[And now as a God, that responsibility is on you! Why didn't you stop it? Why didn't you save lives? Are you an evil god who doesn't care about your followers?? If you are, why is anyone following you?]
I guess when my birthday arrives I'll see if I've been left a gift from Doorway then. It feels a bit backwards though, if it's her month we should be leaving her gifts.
[whoa, that makes mob blink at the wisdom. dimple wants to be popular? that made sense in a weird way. yoichi is truly wise to the ways of the world.]
Yeah, it sounds like it'd be lonely to me. People admiring you and blaming you without really knowing you at all. Or people only seeing you for your power.
[also a good point about patrons] That's true... I'm not really sure what it means to have one of them as a patron I guess. Are they watching our backs more?
[Yoichi is amazing at lucky guesses based on a lot of people watching. If it sounds like wisdom it's accidental.]
I guess that's why most gods have pantheons. Then they don't have to be alone dealing with it.
[He can accept the possibility that they exist, after all. Why not? There's more to the world than he's seen, and he's never seen the spiritual side at all.
The patron thing, though, they can be seen. And interacted with.]
Who knows. It can't hurt to try to help them back a little though, especially if they're giving us nice things. I'm going to ask around for what Doorway might like, and then get her a gift along with offerings.
Mm, that's true. I guess that's kind of like the pthumerians. They remind me of stories of gods all annoying each other and getting in trouble.
[though they seem to date each other and have god kids less, so good for the pthumerians? sort of?]
I think she's the one who wants people to make connections. [he's learned something! not a lot. after a long pause to consider he offers,] Maybe she'd like it if you kept making friends. Does that count as an offering, you think?
I hope some of them are allies of each other, and it isn't all just getting on each other's nerves.
[How terrible that would be, no friends and just enemies and disliked people. Satisfied with the soup for now, Yoichi steps a bit away to give the fire a bit more fuel; things could get chilly fast in winter, and he doesn't want Mob to get uncomfortable.]
That sounds like it might be more for me than for her though. A gift is something the receiver should benefit from somehow right?
